Learning To Animate... Again

So far the shooting on Sinbad 5 is going well and it's been an interesting relearning process for me. That's because I've started animating shots with some real ACTION in them and it's a style of animation I'm not used to because the moves I need to make are so large.
It's forced me to realize how specialized I've been with my shooting style which has been very slow and subtle. Consequently, it just doesn't feel natural or correct to move any part of a puppet a full half an inch for any reason and yet this film will apparently call for me to do that quite often!
Actually, I'm pretty happy with the footage I've shot so far but, it's nerve wracking for me to animate because of the large moves - I keep worrying that the last frame was just WAY too big and a total mistake!

OMG, I can't tell you how frequently I've thought about the importance of the frame grabber in the past few weeks. There is simply NO WAY I could animate the shots I'm shooting with the same level of accuracy if not for video assist. I make my moves as I always do with my surface gauges in place and then spend lots of time correcting the pose... and that's on EVERY frame. I can easily see how much lower the quality of what I'm shooting would be if I didn't have my buddy Dragon helping me!

Luckily, you have the advantage of being able to check your work almost immediately in case you need to do the shot(s) over
