Hey, Marc. I'm new to claymation, but your tutorials have helped me get a lot better in a fast amount of time, but there's something I don't quite get. Do you reccomend animating with foam latex puppets over just regular old clay molds? What's the difference other than the material what are the pros and cons to each one?
JosephJoseph on Saturday, 28 January 2012 16:49

NEVERMIND!

Marc SpessMarc Spess on Friday, 17 February 2012 02:54

Hi Joseph, were you the person who called me last week? Well, glad to help you out. I hope your project turns out nice.

hello marc I was wondering where I could buy the pipes that you put on your armatures for the arms ,I think there called k&s pipes but I cant find the ones that are shaped like A square.
Marc SpessMarc Spess on Friday, 17 February 2012 02:54

Ace Hardware sells those, also smallparts.com is a resource that I think carries K&S as well.

thanks marc.

Fernando Nisio
Hey Marc! Check out the ball-joint puppet armature that I've been working on! I built it using different alternative materials. I live in Brazil, where the parts are really hard to find and are very expensive, so I have to make do and be creative. Thanks very much!

Marc SpessMarc Spess on Friday, 17 February 2012 02:55

Hi Fernando, that armature looks really really good. Nice movements!

Ben Winston
Hey Marc My names Ben and Im a filmmaker in San Francisco. I just wanted to let you know that I am finishing a 15min claymation movie that I started almost 6 years ago thanks to you. I bought all of my wire from you about 5 years back and I learned how to animate and make armatures from your website so thank you. Check out this rough cut I made of the big fight scene at the end. Let me know what ya think. Also keep it up with zombie pirates Ive been waiting a long time to see that shit.
Marc SpessMarc Spess on Thursday, 12 January 2012 01:09

Hi Ben, your film is really well done! Fight scenes like that are hard to pull off with so many puppets! Zombie Pirates is alive and well, but so are my responsibilities which keep growing. Hopefully I can get more done on it soon.

Hey Marc on captain quil and rubles replacement mouths do they snap in or do you just blend them in and that holds them on, because i saw your behind-the-scene footage and it seemed like they snapped on.
Marc SpessMarc Spess on Friday, 06 January 2012 00:44

Hey Zack, they are just clay and blended into position. The clay itself is sticky enough to where they stay in place. The trick might not work with larger sculpted heads.

Cool Guy
Hey Marc, I'm sad to say but the " How To Build Miniature Sets" video tutorial doesn't work when I try to play it and I haven't had this problem before with any of your other video tutorials. I was wondering if I could get an in-store credit since it just doesn't work.
Marc SpessMarc Spess on Saturday, 03 December 2011 00:18

Hey Cool, yeah - we can do that. Or if you want me to send it on DVD I can do that also. I'm not sure why it won't work for you, you're the first to tell me. It is a Quicktime video which might explain why?

Cool GuyCool Guy on Saturday, 03 December 2011 06:14

I'd prefer an in - store -credit instead because I really want to get your new tutorial when it comes out.

Ruly Ardian
hi, March ..I've seen a video of making foam latex puppet making 101, just as you suggest in the letter given earlier. or maybe I had misunderstood about the number 101 in it, the point I want to make some puppet using foam latex material. and want to buy in this web and some are cheap armateur just ... hehehe ... I want to ask what kind of material I need to buy relating to the manufacture of foam latex puppet. thanx March and I'm sorry before
Marc SpessMarc Spess on Saturday, 03 December 2011 00:17

Hi Ruly, there are a lot of different foam latex products. You should try to buy a kit such as these: http://www.burmanfoam.com/estore/home.php?cat=84 A 1 quart kit will go a long way and make several puppets. It's also not too expensive. You will need a mixmaster blender, mold making material such as UltraCal30 and mold release to name a few.

Ruly ArdianRuly Ardian on Saturday, 03 December 2011 03:41

thanx March.... the information from you is will be useful for me, I'll soon see and buy the materials. thanx again to you, I hope you do not get bored reading the question my next question ... : D hahaha .... have a nice weeked March
