About Me
Hello. I'm here because I adore stop motion animation and in particular, model making. I studied animation at university after being blown away by Cosgrove Hall's stop motion production of The Wind in the Willows. I love all animation but there is something magic about stop motion animation, that the likes of CGI just cannot reach. I am indeed a stop motion junkie
Hobbies
Plasticine is my master, but I love silicone and resin too. Sculpting, sculpting, sculpting. Oh, did I mention Sculpting?
Books
Richard Williams Guide to animation. Brian Froud (I love to sculpt his characters), anything by Aardman (even Wallace and Gromit sticker albums)
Movie Interests
The Sandman, Vincent, Corpse Bride, Cosgrove Halls feature length Wind in the Willows, Wallace and Gromit
Favorite Animators
Aardman, Paul Berry, Cosgrove Hall
Favorite Artists
Mackinnon and Saunders, Nick Park, Brian Froud, Jim Henson

Hi Rebecca- Thanks for being my animate-clay friend! I just looked at your photos and your work is wonderful- wow! I'm inspired. In answer to your what to do next question, I pose my own question- do you animate any of these great sculptures you make? And I agree, black plasticine is mess.... ciao, bb

Rebecca SmithRebecca Smith on Sunday, 23 October 2011 04:50

Hey Dean. Sorry to hear about your operation. I am working on a new sculpt at the moment. Will pop it on here once I have completed it. Can't wait to see your new stuff x

Hey, superb sculptures! Do you paint them with Acrylic? I do conceptual character design & as a business I work with schools & communities using time lapse photography & stop frame animation. Do you design characters & then sculpt them? Please take a look at both my websites www.artwiz.co.uk or www.magi-cam.co.uk

Hey Dean, nice to meet you! Yes I do. Apart from the Dangermouse and Penfold of course! I do design and sculpt them all myself. I will have a look at your stuff xxxx

Dean Dean on Sunday, 09 October 2011 14:20

Great to meet you to! Yep I sculpt in many different materials & very interested in using silicone & resin. Not done that yet but at the mo trying to learn the basics of lip synch for my new animation character, he's an art magician which will introduce myself through my website.

Much more to come, i'd love to see your artwork turned into sculptures! If you like I'll show you my more proffesional character designs!

Dean Dean on Sunday, 09 October 2011 14:43

Here is one example of a character created 'Junk Master' he's an evil character created for my healthy eating story! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiR3ELObDvY

Rebecca SmithRebecca Smith on Tuesday, 11 October 2011 17:38

Thanks Dean! He's fantastic. Fancy maybe collaborating on something at some point?

Rebecca SmithRebecca Smith on Tuesday, 11 October 2011 17:44

Hey thanks Dean. Although the pictures you see of my stuff are the sculptures. Alot of them are then cast and made into resin replicas that I paint and sell. Like the goblin heads. I design, sculpt, cast and paint. Your junk master is really cool x

Dean Dean on Tuesday, 11 October 2011 23:33

Hi Rebecca, hmmm yes I would be very interested in collaborating at some point, do you use Skype? If you don't please get it as it's awesome to have a visual chat, we could show each other are sketches/designs & sculptures. You have skills which interest me & I hope my conceptual designs interest you!

Do you animate your characters? I'm doing it as I speak, I have so many characters i've made over the years & i'm finally getting round to animating them! Hurray!! Always wanted to get into stop-frame animation in a big way & its time to put action to my words! My pixel-animation skills have major improved during the past two years, heres a short clip! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23p_i-gh3nk (It's amazing what you can do over a 3hr workshop)

Yep my main interests are concept design/model making, this looks to me the area where we might have common knowledge but we could transfer are skills to each other. I'd love to see how you visualise your characters from several angles, front, side & back, been looking for something to use which is easy to use, i've used maya in the past, its too hard! Do you know of anything out there I can use to create a digital version before the actual sculpture?

Better not talk anymore as you might be asleep at this point! ha ha

Hope to hear from you soon

Cheers Dean 'The Art Wizard'

"Nervous about setting up my own model making company!"

Hey you,

Why are you nervous? You'll be AWESOME! (Why do I have to keep telling you this, wally?)
Any more feedback or news from the Bristol interview?
When are we brainstorming??
S xx
Rebecca SmithRebecca Smith on Saturday, 30 April 2011 01:06

Hey poppet. Just nervous that I get no work! There are so many others out there, it quite daunting. I haven't done too much since Teabag has gone missing. I'm in pieces over it and as we've just moved, I think she's lost. Its hard to concentrate on anything else. I'm working on the website today though. So that should be up in a few days. Got a meeting with an animation company on a week on Monday in London. I have been in touch with Scary Cat, so hopefully at some point they will ask me to do some work.
How about you?
xxxxx

Steve WinchesterSteve Winchester on Saturday, 30 April 2011 07:22

Hey Darling
If people see your portfolio, they should be falling over themselves to get to you!
Again, why do I keep telling you this? lol
I'm sure Teabag will be found soon enough! When's the ad in the paper?
When you say Model Making Company though, are you talking fully operational Animatable puppets, or pre-visualisation maquettes? Or Models for casting? etc etc? Or ALL OF IT? :o)
As for me... I'm struggling with the MAYA stuff, still not putting myself into it as much as I should.
Also keep changing my mind... tempted to do a SFX Make Up course in London.
Still wanna do stop motion stuff here and there, but its space I lack for that one.
Got a lot on at work too... I'm shattered most days, sleep most weekends! :o|
Will make up my mind soon, and get on with it!
Still wanna work with you too... on something!
