About Me
I dabbled in stop motion as a child in the 70's, inspired by the usual Harryhausens and such.

Then in 1989 I got my hands on a super 8mm camera and shot many films starring rolling balls of clay. In the early 90's I landed a job in video production and began to shoot stop-mo directly onto video tape.

Then I found Lost Leader Productions where I learned many things, like how to build a very inexpensive, yet highly functional armature.

I shot a few independent shorts and regional commercials over the next few years.

In 1999 I worked as an animator at Will Vinton Studios for the short-lived stop-mo sitcom "Gary and Mike".

Then in 2000 I got a frame grabber and started Random Animation. In the ten years since then I've shot just over 30 minutes worth of... whatever.

Are your characters made out of clay???
Randy BoyumRandy Boyum on Monday, 30 April 2012 00:57

Most of my characters are clay. I use soft clay over wire armatures for the bodies, and hard baked clay for the heads. But the characters from "How to Survive a Bear Attack" and "A Fool's Gold" have cloth bodies with clay heads.
