My newplast is too hard, any tips?
My newplast is too hard, any tips?
Hello there, so i have been using newplast for about 2 years now and im finding it rather hard to work with, its ok once i have it sculpted and im animating it, but getting it out of the pack and trying to work with it can be a nightmare.
Does anyone have any ideas on what i can do to maybe soften the clay a bit, and i find putting it under the lamp to warm up tends to take way to long and it hardly works just so you know.
And i think newplast burns rather than melts, is this true?
Re: My newplast is too hard, any tips?
Aww, I was gonna say torch it. Just kidding.
I have the same thing happening to me with my oil-based clays (non-hardening). The longer you leave the clay in the box without touching it, the generally harder it will get when you first start molding it. I would guess maybe microwaving it (I take no responsibilities for any damages) or keeping them in air-tight bags. But honestly, I've just accepted the fact that at first they are difficult to mold - just pound it a few times with a bat and it should be fine.
Hope this helps.

Don't put it in the microwave, it goes weird and smells awful. Newplast dries out a lot, I don't know any way around it. Also in the cold weather it seems to go hard and crack when you're out and the heating isn't on.
And yes, it does burn rather than melt
Re: My newplast is too hard, any tips?
I know there's probably some water mixed into newplast. I had some that dried rock hard, it sort of evaporates whatever is in it. So it might be possible to either keep it in a container with water or in a container that has a cup inside it with water to keep it humid. That's what I might try if I were you. I can't test my ideas because I don't think I have my newplast any more.
