Creating a (huge) jaw mecanism"

Creating a (huge) jaw mecanism"

Hi there,

i'm a little short of ideas right now about solving a problem i have with my armature. My creature (puppet) have a jaw looking like a T-Rex one. I've put a hinge so it could open and close easily and that both sides moves at the same time. It is a little too heavy to be supported by aluminium wires and even if i double and triple up the number of wires, it doesn't close firmly as i want it. Any ideas ?http://www.animateclay.com/components/com_agora/img/members/373/mini_1.jpeg

I just want to clarify a point.  I tried the wire and they are tough enough to maintain the jaw at a certain position, but when i want to close the jaws tight, i can't.  The bottom jaws is always coming back a little, after i stop touching it.

Thanks .

Re: Creating a (huge) jaw mecanism"

How about screwing an "L" bracket to the wood back, and attaching a magnet to the jaw?

I'm not sure i clearly understand what you mean...  For the magnet, you mean to help me get the upper and the bottom teeth tight together when the mouth is close with a wire system ?

What about the "L" bracket ?

Thanks !!

An "L" bracket is just...an L-shaped steel bracket, with holes drilled in it, which is used to hold up small shelves, or strengthen some construction. You can buy one in any hardware store. Add a magnet to the jaw and this should keep your T-Rex mouth securely closed.

Thanks for the explanation.  I finally build a wooden hinge by myself with a endless screw tight up with 2 nuts.  This way, i can adjust the resistance on the mouth.
