Ray Harryhausens 90th Birthday Film Festival Celebration Thread

Ray Harryhausens 90th Birthday Film Festival Celebration Thread

Hey everyone, since Stop Motion Magic will be gone after July 17th, I wanted to create a permanent place for Rays 90th birthday celebration. So if you've created a tribute, have behind the scenes images of your tribute - or simply want to talk about his birthday on June 29th 2010, this is the place. Share your Harryhausen story with everyone and make sure to join us live on the 29th here:

All Things Stop Motion Live

Make sure to sign up for the live show reminder mailing list because as of now I don't know the exact time of day we'll do the show.

I don't have time to animate anything but could I upload some pictures of a sculpt or something?

Re: Ray Harryhausens 90th Birthday Film Festival Celebration Thread

Hmm I don't have anything to contribute.
I'd love to join the live chat though there's one problem.
I don't have the time zones with me, the normal live chats would be available at 3am in my area. hmm
Maybe I could stay up late for once.... but really it isn't enjoyable.

I might have the live show on that day sometime earlier in the day as opposed to 8. It may run for a few hours, it just depends on how big the audience is.

I'd be willing to stay up for it. Also it might be a good opportunity to have Ron or someone like that on the show with you?

Hey Marc, yeah Ron plans to also be on the show - it should be fun to talk when the time comes.

I did a random animation of a Dimetrodon waking up to the sunrise.  I'm not sure where to go with that.  Maybe at the end have it sing Happy Birthday to Ray Harryhausen?

Re: Ray Harryhausens 90th Birthday Film Festival Celebration Thread

Just finished registering for the new AnimateClay site.
I've just about finished my Birthday Tribute so I'll have something.  Well, I did upload it but as Ron pointed out, it had a few issues still.  So hopefully it will be better, but if not it will still be there in its present form.
I could do with an email about the starting time for the chat.

Hey, good to see you on here, Nick!
Also you know the video where you're making the cave set for your tribute?
I might just steal that technique of making walls, where you put the expanding urethane onto the boards. I've got some urethane sitting around collecting dust, and I need some rocky walls. So thank you for showing us that.

Re: Ray Harryhausens 90th Birthday Film Festival Celebration Thread

Thanks Marc H,
Once you've used expanding urethane for rock walls you start to see it in all kinds of films!
The cave set is not for the birthday tribute,  which is now finished and ready to reveal when the live chat happens.   Ron helped me fix a couple of things, like not having a title at the start, or music at beginning and end, and it's better now.
The cave was for a Stop Motion Magazine promo for their special Harryhausen issue that wold have come out on June 10th - except there were problems getting clearance to use photos and other issues.   So it's now planned for August.  I'm trying to work out how to finish off that film without having the magazine graphics that were going to be the whole point of it.  I don't know if I'll get it posted in time or have to leave it for later.  I'm trying to figure out what to do, because it's more interesting looking than the birthday film.
