February 1 to February 29, 2012: Monthly Challenge Ad Compiliation!
Re: February 1 to February 29, 2012: Monthly Challenge Ad Compiliation!
Ok everyone here's the rough draft. Let me know your thoughts and if you think we need changes:
Hey! Are you a stop motion animator wanna-be surfing the internet right now? Do you dream of creating and animating your own characters? Be they creature, robotic or human? Then why not join others just like yourself?
Every month groups of stop motion animators challenge each other to make short films and experiments to hone their skills! It's simple to join. Just make a free account at animateclay.com and visit the challenges area at the top of the site. From there you animate the topic for that month and upload it to youtube and link to your video in the forums. Then during the last Wednesday at 8PM of each month, all attendees vote for the winner during the live broadcast. It's a ton of fun! And sometimes there are free prizes to win! So what are you waiting for? Head over to animateclay.com today and join in the fun!

Good catch Scott, I've changed that part and tweaked the free prize sentence a little. I don't know how long it will take for Ron to do the voices but once he does I'll post it here. Then we need to figure out what we will animate. We could possibly even put some live action into this to utilize some time if there aren't enough animators to divide up into the ad. What do you all think of that? Maybe showing yourself animating or editing as well? Here's the final script:

this maybe a bit off topic here. but as far as jugding the challenges, maybe set up a pole type thing that registered users can log in and vote. as not everyone can always make it on wednesday evening , plus putting the people voting in the spot light of who they voted for may cause some animosity . not that thats been a problem but as we add more people [hopefully] it could be a problem . pole type voting would not take away time from Wednesday night discussions thats seems to go by so quickly as it is . by the way it was really hard to pick one they were all great . it will be nice to share with more people the fun of animation . Marc maybe bring this up on this coming wednsdays talk ?. cheers , Scott.

This line seems a bit jumbled to me (of course, it could just be me!). It would be easier to read it more like: The winner is decided by vote during our live broadcast, at 8pm PST on the last Wednesday of each month.
I think I mentioned 'all attendees' earlier too, but it kinda implies it is compulsory. And some people like to sit on the fence. Ouch!
Scott, I think having an open poll for voting may create unfair results - like who has the most friends. Voting in-show is not only great fun for the viewers (and will attract them to the show), it also turns out genuine results. Nothing is fairer than a democratic vote.
But I agree, the voting strategy is a bit mixed up and lengthy, as it's hard for Marc to keep track of who's voted for who and how many times
If only there was a way to tidy it up. Like a live, in-show poll button.

In some countries it's customary to mark an index finger with indelible ink to show you have voted, and prevent you from voting twice. Is there any way that inked finger images can be combined with the live broadcast and an online poll to get the best of both worlds? Just my naive two pennies...

yeah Dean i see your point about the the contest judging being a draw to the show. as far as unfair results it seems that anyway it's done other than the way its been done in the past [Marc asking everyone at the show] we will have to trust that people will play by the rules. i don't think this would be a problem seems like we are a good bunch in this community. its not like there is big prize money, just bragging rights among friends. but anyways i didn't mean to high jack this thread. it was about putting together a short to promote the site . the write up sounds good so far , maybe push the "any age and skill level" a bit more ?

But that uses passive voice.
