Empire Strikes Back additional stop motion footage
Empire Strikes Back additional stop motion footage
Ever since I saw Empire Strikes Back for the first time in high school and being a stop motion fanatic my whole life, I've always wanted to see more stop motion in this film (I mean it's one of the all time epic visual effects films when stop motion was at it's zenith) and there was always one part in the film that I thought could've used just a couple of more shots........ sooooooo, for fun, this is the first shot that I've had completed and cut into the scene. It's one shot cut in half and put in two different spots, you'll see what I mean when you watch it......... there's 2 more shots I'm doing for this little project of which I'm currently getting ready to start clicking frames on in another week or so, but until then there's this for now.

Re: Empire Strikes Back additional stop motion footage
Hey Thanks Marc, yeah my buddy that did the compositing has since improved this shot so it blends in much better and doesn't look pasted in. This first shot was a warm up of what's coming next which is going to be an originally composed shot with a miniature set. I'm going to start clicking frames on the next shot this weekend and when finished we'll cut it into the original footage along with the improved Wampa Attack shot.
A quick question, how do I embed the video so it can be viewed here on the page instead of having to click on the link to see it on the other (Vimeo) site
Re: Empire Strikes Back additional stop motion footage
Oh that's awesome, I can't wait to see more. Those original shots are some of my favorite all time stop mo scenes. To embed the films just click the little film strip, then the V symbol for Vimeo and put the video ID in place of Video_id##. I'll see if I can get it to work. It's been a while since I embedded one myself.

Hey Thanks Man!! Oh yeah, to me the stop motion in Empire was the pinnacle zenith of the art form!! I've got a little album of pics of the project so far on my facebook page, if you want to check it out just look up fantamation studio, I don't know how to use the link stuff yet, I'm a computer illiterate LOL!

Re: Empire Strikes Back additional stop motion footage
Hi Jim, our attachment system doesn't work very well on our site. The best thing to do is to upload your pictures to your blog and then link to them using the image link. I did get your e-mail and those Taun Taun pictures are awesome.
Re: Empire Strikes Back additional stop motion footage
We have completed our ESB Project and wanted to share it with you.
A collaboration by Filmmakers/Visual Effects Artists: Jim Davidson and Joe Schultz to create new stop motion footage and edit it into the "The Empire Strikes Back," fleshing out the "Wampa Attack" sequence and matching traditional stop motion animation techniques and esthetics used by ILM in the late 1970's, while taking advantage of digital technology available today.
