Puppet Hair

Puppet Hair

I am looking for ideas on how to give my puppet hair on his head and on his face. What I am aiming for is something very realistic looking that I can make from scratch. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Puppet Hair

Hey Deschain, do you have any drawings or sketches of your character? For something realistic you might use crepe hair, or doll hair. You can get that in a lot of hobby and craft stores that sell doll making materials and parts. But if your puppet has short hair you might want to use flocking material that they use to add grass to fine scale train sets. It just depends on what you are trying to do.

Re: Puppet Hair

I one time did an animation test using pipecleaners to see if they could be used as hair.  Check it out and if you don't think it'll work then fine.

Re: Puppet Hair

Try using colored wire or threading wire into thread (sounds repetitive, I know). I would assume this can help move hair and not have it flop around in little breezes...

Re: Puppet Hair

It depends on the style of the hair, give us a drawing, please!

Re: Puppet Hair

m_) try some cotton mixed up with latex and acrylics. That's the way to go for some nice fur.

m_) Oh hair, well, sheep hair maybe?
