Stop Motion Software

Stop Motion Software

Greetings all!!

I am under way of making my senior art project, but am at a road block at the moment. I am planning on taking pictures with my DSLR camera and then uploading them to my computer. I was hoping to then finish the project through the stop motion program. I tried the trial version of Stop Motion Pro, but it's a little confusing to me. Is that the right program to use? Other programs I have tried to download trials, but several have come up where my laptop doen't recognize it and says it's harmful. I'd rather not try something and find out that my computer has crashed (too many things that would be dreadful to lose).

If people could respond ASAP, that would be greatly appreciated. This is definitely going to be a huge project in a very short amount of time (I blame my professors for not using their heads). I have about 8 weeks to create a stop motion. I don't know how far I'll get, but I'm not quitting now.

Any information is helpful. Thank you!

Re: Stop Motion Software

Here's my two pennies:
1) Your professors are idiots
2) Back up all your valuable stuff - NOW!

I read somewhere that there are only two kinds of hard drive - those that are broken, and those that aren't broken yet...

There are many good books on stop motion (and quite a few bad ones too, unfortunately).
3) some book ideas: Books
4) some software ideas: Software

Hope this helps

J

Re: Stop Motion Software

Thank you J!

I will have to look at the software website sometime soon. I actually have many books that I bought from used book stores that help, but aren't quite the right material as of now.

Yes, my professors aren't the brightest when it comes to this. It's unfortunate that they have no REAL background on this (although several say they've done stop motion before, but I have to remind them that they were given longer than 8 weeks to complete a project). I have my 6 week review tomorrow to show the art department how far I am. I'll see how that goes. If you don't hear back from me in a few weeks, either I've run away or I'm in the bat cave trying to pull this off. Either way, it will be many sleepless nights.

Thanks again for the links.

Re: Stop Motion Software

Well, it would seem that fate has completely screwed me over. I looks like I will only get about 1-2 minutes of film done, and it will not be the best quality. I'm really starting to wonder why I went to this college. They have no respect for the amount of work that goes into a stop motion animation, and they have little respect for me. I'm sorry to break the bad news; I was really looking forward to showing all of you my finest work.

Let's pray that what I get done is decent enough.

Re: Stop Motion Software

1-2 minutes is still a lot of work! Good luck with it; I'm sure we'd be interested in what you've done anyway.

Re: Stop Motion Software

Yeah... I know it is. I'm not even sure if I'll be finishing it by the end of this year. A lot of confusion going around. My original idea was a little boy trying out different musical instruments, but due to timing, that wouldn't have been possible. I'll keep people on this website updated. Thanks for the support!!

Re: Stop Motion Software

A kid trying out musical instruments is a great idea! No lip-synch, simple sounds, lots of scope for humour and visual gags -- take a look at Tales of Hoffmann (*think* that's how you spell it) for inspiration...
