July Challenge -

Re: July Challenge -

Yeah, but when Harryhausen chopped off her head, did he pour 50 pounds of fake blood on the scene? Violence to an extent is fine, but the slasher idea to fill every scene with tons of blood is not fine (imho). You can make a perfectly good horror, violence, or macabre film without much or any blood. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying banning every video that has a tiny bit of fake blood in it).

I suppose you're right, but I don't think anyone is saying they will do that for the July challenge. Maybe we should be clear that some violence and blood is ok, especially if it fits into the challenge theme.

Re: July Challenge -

This challenge seems pretty awkward and annoying, but i might actually have a go at it just for the fun, its not as if im gonna win with all the pro animators on here lol!

Re: July Challenge -

Ok, new guideline;
Be tasteful.
I think Matt mentioned Edgar Allen Poe a few pages back, his work has plenty of examples of tasteful yet still very macabre and horror-ful(horrible?) stories.

Re: July Challenge -

m_) Allright guys, here is what I think:

m_) Correct me if I am wrong,, but the theme we are dealing is Macabre, hence death -which can be portrayed in several ways, not necessarily using blood.

m_) If the theme was Blood and Gore or Violence, I think most of you, whose want some blood in your film, may fit pretty well with the theme. Not that I am saying "Do not make a film with blood" but the fact that you put some blood or gore is not exactly what the theme is asking you to do. The theme is about death, and death mainly means an END, whereas blood and gore has other means to represent extreme violence (most cases). Now, if you feel happy showing blood I would say go for it, but I don't think the theme ever said "go show me some blood and gore"

m_) On the other hand, I am making a sexy woman doll that will attract you guys more than any juicy blood or extreme street fight. But I am not so sure how to end her legs, so if anyone has some good tip making female puppets please come back to me. I was planning to put some latex for her legs but I don't want to end up making a creepy looking on her.

m_) I liked all these conversation about the rating system and its giving me some funny ideas but I guess I need to shut up and get it all done instead of revealing all my ideas.

Re: July Challenge -

female puppet legs... that's a tricky one. What's the problem? feet, lower legs...
As for me, I'm starting today with building the puppet, maybe some of the set.

Re: July Challenge -

I just started animating my submition for this challenge probably wont be as good as some of the pros but is deffinently a good one. I managed to not infringe on any of the guidelines even the questionable gory one

Re: July Challenge -

m_) I am trying to make the legs look as female as possible and not ending up making a creepy looking as in like a creature skin. ..no bubbles..

Hey Metal, you might try looking for a Barbie doll or something similar to modify. You could even make a mold of something like that and cast it in rubber. Otherwise I'd try to cover the legs if you made a mold of a sculpt, or sculpt the legs in sculpey and fine sand them down as much as you can.

Re: July Challenge -

m_) sculpey once is baked is hard, and I need her legs to be flexible. They are already wired, but I am planning to put some foam, and I thought about adding latex as the last layer to create a skin texture, yet afraid the latex may move around and look bad on her.

m_) I never purchased a barbie in my life, nor can I afford buying one now.

m_) If I make a mold I guess you are talking about making a latex-based puppet that goes through the process of casting. Something I am looking forward trying one day, I just don't think I have all that it takes to make a cast mold puppet (if that's the right words for it)
