Can't wait to see some of these entries. Unfortunately, I'll be in Tampa for the rest of the month so I won't be able to participate. I'll try to stop in before the month's end and see what people have come up with.
Just checked out The Pit and the Pendulum; it looks great. The director is the same guy who did that "alien" animation for Ray's B-day tribute. I'll probably order myself a copy when I get back home.
Sorry about being off topic...
Why you coming to Tampa?
Just curious, I live in West Tampa. I work less then a mile away from the Bucks stadium.
Also, I wont be entering this challenge. Had an idea and even story boarded it out.
I'm just not feeling it though.
I enjoy these type of films, just not making them I guess.
Can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with!
Re: July Challenge -
My first ever post on animate clay!
But back to the current topic, I could imagine a personification of death being included as a character in one of the challenge films, just an idea, like creating a grim reaper or just what you guys would think would work out to personify death, just an idea to anybody looking for one.... I might just do a film as well

lol that is what my animation is about
Re: July Challenge -
Now who would have a Grim Reaper puppet lying about? :-) He's got everything except the scythe, which i could make pretty quickly.
Alex Uranga also had a skeleton for his Harryhausen birthday greetings - that would fit into this topic pretty well.
Trouble is, the idea I had involves a whole new set, and 2 new puppets, that I probably wouldn't use again for a long time... and my poor old skeleton puppet is getting a bit fragile after his last 2 films. He deserves a holiday.

m_) Oh well, I don't have a Grim Reaper, but I do have a doll that needs some serious attention with make-up if she really wants to be part of this film, or else I will have to make an entire new doll..which is not ideally what I have estimated. However, that face is no longer female, and I ended up making a troll...what a pitty!
Re: July Challenge -
I actually have a rather decent idea, so im gonna get it written down and storyboarded as quickly as possible, i hope it isn't too violent for the challenge!
Edit: haven't even started animating yet my characters are almost done and it looks like this isnt going to be done on time again
