Moses and the Israelites

Moses and the Israelites

Hey guys,
It's been over a month and my latest epic film "Moses and the Israelites" has been uploaded on youtube.  If you havent' seen it yet, I ask that you take the time (24 minutes) to watch the film and tell me what you think.  I did the best I could to summarize the books of Exodus, Numbers, and Deuteronomey through a kid friendly, time-traveling story line. I hope you enjoy the film.
Here's the link to the trailer.  The trailer should have a link at the end to lead you to part 1.

So far so good F&S - the puppets are simple but that's all it takes to tell a good story.

Ah ok, I didn't see the link you talked about so I searched your channel and found the three parts of the film.

The film is entertaining, I think the way you used humor throughout it helps make it more interesting for kid viewers "and adults". The use of the time machine also was a good way to put the stories in perspective. Over-all it's impressive that you completed such a long film!

Re: Moses and the Israelites

I got halfway through Part 1 and I had to stop. Just too much relentless story-telling commentary and not enough action. I really think it is great that you got so much done, (something which I find very difficult!), but a bit less "tell" and a bit more "show" would make it a lot more kid-friendly. Just my opinion...

@Marc Spess Yah, it was hard to make within a year.  Turns out it is possible to tell the whole Moses story within a halfhour.
@jahnocli Yah, I forgot kids only like thoughtless action.  All well, I still accomplished my goal of telling the story.  You just have to be patient.  At the end of Part 1 there was a 30 second action sequence wink

Er, I don't recall saying that action had to be thoughtless...

No, but if you think about it that's what stays in a kid's head.  When I watched "The Matrix" at a young age I couldn't remember anything of the plot until I was years older.  The only parts are remembered were the action sequences.  In themselves, actions have no plot.  There for they're mindless.  Thought can go into action, but not come from it as much in movies.

So, all silent movies are mindless to kids?

Re: Moses and the Israelites

I guess there's two kinds of actions. Ones that move a plot along, or others that don't. Sort of like our monthly exercises where you animate an action - like just throwing a knife. But the goal with those is to learn the movements and flow of a movement.

But action also moves a story, like the Wallace and Gromit chase sequence in the Wrong Trousers. That's one of my favorites.

I don't think jahnocli means what he said in a bad way F&S. I think he's just pointing out that it's mostly talking, and to him it's not as entertaining.
