Goutte D' Or

Goutte D Or

This has to be one of the nicest looking independent stop motion films I've seen in a while!

French director Christophe Peladan and his crew have been working on Goutte D' Or since 2007. They've built some top notch looking puppets, a huge pirate ship set and created a lot of nice pre-production art. It is also a film that is being made in Denmark, with ties to the UK. The music will be composed by the French band called Les Primitives du Futur.

There isn't much on the site explaining the story, however they are seeking donations to complete it. The nice part is they posted a lot of amazing pictures of what they've done so far. Plus the video you see below.

There is one shot in this preview that has me totally stumped! There's a shot of her floating in the air on the broom and I can't for the life of me figure out how she's being supported. I watched it frame by frame (many times) and every part of her and the broom are in motion and there's not a single spot that seems to be where she could possibly be on any kind of a flying rig. My best guess is that it would be the broom that's on a rig but, WOW is it difficult to imagine how. BRAVO!

Waaa???,

they used green screen. Many stop motion animations use green screens to achieve some effects and the shots are comp'd together.

I know she was matted into the shot, it's her motion I'm not understanding how it was accomplished. Even if she's green screened in, that still doesn't explain how every part of her and her broom are moving... I can't see where anything could be attached to her or it in order to give it that weightless look.

so realistic! My mind just blew up. Even if it was all put together on the computer, the animation is still there and it's still fantastic! They also have another video on the profile and I can't believe how realistic the movements are!

p.s. Ron, here's a link that'll explain how they made her move like that: http://www.gouttedor.com/Images.

The animator of the pirate character was Ludovic Berardo, from Belgium, look for his showreel, he is amazing. He also animated on O Apostolo, and it was my professor for 3 weeks!! Amazing!
