Aardman is about to release its latest clay animated masterpiece. The Pirates! Band of Misfits. Let's see what we can find out about it....
For the last few months I've mentioned on our live show that Aardman was working on a new feature based around pirates at sea. In fact it isn't a secret, Peter Lord has blogged about it for quite a while. He's even posted behind the scenes images and videos of it on his Twit Pic page over here. So just recently they posted different trailers for it on the web. Below is one of the nicest.
Here is the official description from that video explaining in detail what it's about:
"In The Pirates! Band of Misfits, Hugh Grant stars in his first animated role as the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain - a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen), and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It's a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they battle a diabolical queen (Imelda Staunton) and team up with a haplessly smitten young scientist (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!"
It's not Aardmans first foray into the world of Pirates at sea. They also have a great old commercial they made many years ago for Weetabix. So if you're inspired by their Misfits film you may like the Weetabix spot also by clicking over here.
The Pirates! Band of Misfits is set to be released September 21st 2012 in the USA but probably earlier in England.
