Butterflies - directed by Isabel Peppard

Butterflies, a short stop motion film

There is a short film being produced and funded in Australia called Butterflies. Will it be the next big independent hit?

From the looks of it, this project has some great artists with some very imaginative ideas. I found out about the team making it when they subscribed to our Twitter account. After checking out their web site I got interested. Then when I saw their Facebook page I was hooked! Just take a look at their gallery page over here and you will too. They are using a Canon 7D camera with Pentax lenses and Dragon Stop Motion to capture their animation.

Here's a video on YouTube showing their previous film called Gloomy Valentine:

Hey, I just dropped into AnimateClay and there's the face of the puppet I'm animating! I see the news item has been up for a while, but the news stories cycle through so something else must have been there last time.
I visited Isabel's studio for this a couple of months ago and was stunned by what I saw - loved everything about the set and character design. Gorgeous in a creepy way. It has far more of a story to it than Gloomy Valentine, more extensive sets, and more complex, silicone puppets, but you can still see how it is a development of the style in the earlier film. So now, I'm thrilled to be animating on it a couple of days a week. John Lewis has animated some great shots already and set the bar pretty high. Isabel's still making things, so has only done a few shots herself - that's why I'm there, to keep those shots coming while she creates more props. So far I'm just doing a flashback sequence with a child version of the main character, in a very different style of set, but once the sequence is done I hope to do some in the big gothic-steampunky factory set as well.
