How to Make Wooden Puppets

Wood Puppet Making

Wood has been used for centuries as a way to make 3-D objects. But what about puppets?

Puppets in Prague is a site that makes puppets specifically out of wood. They don't exactly cater to stop motion puppets but do sell armatures that allow for mounting of wooden parts. They prefer creating marionette puppets, probably because they lack the patience to animate their creations frame by frame.

The good thing is that they offer instructions on how to design, carve, clothe and paint these uniquely styled puppets. Everything from making the heads and faces, feet and joints is explained in detail and can give you some excellent ideas on how to make your own puppets.

If you're financially able or live near to the studio they even offer work shops that you can take to learn from the old-world puppet making masters. If this all sounds exciting you can take a look at their web site and read all about it over here.

If you looked closer you'd see that this school is one of the top Stop Motion puppet building and animation schools in the world. They teach the Cvech style of armature making pa*sed down from Jiri Trnka himself. And yes they teach how to make wooden stop motion puppets. Look under "Workshops".

I love it so much that I feel like I can make a wooden puppet by myself and that I can put on my own show and it will be so awesome with all sorts of cool stuff out of the puppets
like at least making them and playing with them and loving them so much that I can play with them all the time and that I can make even more puppets when I am done with all of the shows
