Laputa Art Animation School in Japan

Laputa Animation School

I recently discovered a school in Japan that teaches the art of creating stop motion animation.

Since I dont understand Japanese very well and the English version of the web site is a rough  translation through Excite - I can only offer a fun video made by the school. It shows the creation of a full body ball and socket armature and the techniques involved. If you live near Japan it may be something worth looking into a little deeper. The armature and final puppet looks very well made. All hand created on machines as well as soldered joints and carved wood by Mr. Takashi Komae.

This is Magari Fumikos stop motion school. There's an interview with her in Stop Motion Magazine's Japan Issue. The video is a show reel from the armature maker who supplies 90% of the armatures to the Stop Motion Industry in Japan. They don't teach ball-n-socket armature making at that school. They teach animating stop motion puppets.
