Coming November 23rd on CBS (US only) will be a full episode of SpongeBob in stop motion!
Maybe it's too early to talk about Christmas, but it seems everywhere you go you find Christmas trees in shop windows, candy canes in the super markets and....stop motion on TV? Christmas and stop motion just seem to go together and Nickelodeon decided SpongeBob fit into that category. So they transformed him into a stop motion puppet.
The story is not original but taken from an episode made in 2000, but as cel animation. It is simply re-making scene by scene the entire older show. So if you like SpongeBob and stop motion, watch it as it airs or record it on your DVR's to get past the commercials. You can find out more on Nickelodeons web site here. Look for it in stores such as WalMart and Amazon.com as well. Watch an HD trailer for it below.

Still, it was great. I love the animation, especially the scenes with Patchy. The ending was a little off-putting, but that's just my opinion. I'm surprised; it makes me feel nostalgic; even though it was made recently, I felt like it was some lost relic from Spongebob's past. This is not only because of the animation style; in general, everyone's characterizations are a lot closer to older seasons than newer ones. Plankton is sympathetic yet still a genuine threat and quite nasty, Sandy's still a mad genius, but much closer to Earth than usual, Squidward doesn't receive more abuse than he deserves, and Patrick's more of a lovable goof than an annoying moron. We even see a brief, sweet moment of genuine friendship between Patchy and his parrot. Yet, Santa Claus, in my opinion, was a bit of a letdown, and rather unsympathetic, especially compared to his portrayal in the original Spongebob Christmas special.
I'd say the better of the two specials, between this and the 2000 episode is a matter of taste. They're both really sweet, have good characterization, and really put me in the holiday spirit.
