My Home Depot Armature

Take a look at my armature that I made using stuff exclusively from Home Depot except for the ball bearings (Ace Hardware) and foam tape (my local soccer store).

They're rare earth magnets specifically, with the ball and socket is washer shaped.

That's a cool idea. How does it animate? Does it hold it's position well? If you do some animation with it please post it - I don't think I've ever seen anyone make an armature that way :)

It holds position really well, but weight is the most crucial factor so you can rule out covering with clay. Right now, I'm trying to make a head that's light enough with proportions close enough to look right, and don't want to get distracted by shooting some footage to demonstrate its pose ability. I will try to post video when I get a completed puppet.
