I don't normally write alarmist or click bait blog posts here on animateclay.com, but I feel that this is a very relevant thing to discuss. Things are changing in the market for camera equipment and all things digital. Cameras are crucial for stop motion and also one of the bigger expenses. Many cost up to a few thousand for a good DSLR, or around 60 dollars for a fairly good webcam. Digital phones and tablets are other pieces of equipment are also expensive and about to go up in cost.
Yes, we're talking about the tariffs within the U.S.. You may say - I don't live there, I live in another country so prices won't go up for me. That is what I thought, but then I learned that many companies are raising prices across all countries. Why? Because they want to keep prices as low as possible in the U.S. They are offsetting costs and passing those fee's onto other countries. Meaning even if you live somewhere else in the world, your prices could go up too.
I found an article that lists a lot of good cameras for stop motion on Digital Camera World. I'm not affiliated with them but they link directly to cameras online with good reputations in the stop motion world. If you were holding off on buying equipment, they are all good considerations for your animation needs. Click here to read the article.
Software costs most likely won't go up, so if you're looking for editing programs for a PC or Mac, you shouldn't have to worry. But PC's, laptops and Macs will most likely see price hikes from some articles I've read. Other articles say those things are now exempt, but with all the day to day uncertainty, it is also one of those things to consider if you are in need.
